William Bell: Blues Breaker

William Bell turns 77 on the 16th of July. He is the man who co-wrote the classic, “Born Under A Bad Sign.” His first solo record, YOU DON’T MISS YOUR WATER, helped put Stax Records on the map back in 1961. Bell is a soul singer’s soul singer. You will know him if you saw the documentary about Memphis soul music, TAKE ME TO THE RIVER. He’s the one doing a duet with Snoop Dogg. Now, after thirty years, William Bell has a new solo record, called THIS IS WHERE I LIVE. On the Stax label, of course. And here is that smooth voice many remember. It’s like he never left. This is called “Poison in the Well.”
