Under the Hood: Shemekia Copeland on Billy Gibbons

Johnny Clyde Copeland is a legendary Texas guitar slinger. Billy Gibbons is the front man for that little ol’ band from Texas… ZZ Top. Those traditions come together via Johnny’s daughter, Shemekia Copeland who recalls meeting Billy Gibbons for the first time.

“I met him at The Apollo a few years back when we were doing a tribute to Hubert Sumlin and he was such a nice guy. He was talking to me about uh being a young kid running around in Texas checking out blues artists in clubs, and my dad was one of ‘em. And I just really enjoyed our conversations so much. And uh I’m so happy you know that a big rock star like him has decided to play on the record. So that’s very cool.” – Shemekia Copeland
