Under the Hood: Larry McCray on Jr. Walker

Blues guitarman Larry McCray was raised on a farm, and grew up listening to rhythm and blues on the radio.  One of his favorites was Junior Walker.  And he tells us why.

“To me uh Junior Walker was one of the most soulful individuals ever to pick up any instrument. I mean he had a way about his presentation and it’s what we call a country funk. He had a way of blending his uh country roots and his soul and backbone music into something that was uh very at that time R&B/soul-friendly, contemporary-friendly you know which the music was in the later 60s and the 70s you know when I first started listening to music.”- Larry McCray
