Under the Hood: John Lee Hooker on Albert Collins

Texas born blues man Albert Collins was referred to by many as “The Master of the Telecaster.” A cousin of the legendary Lightnin’ Hopkins, Collins emerged with a blues sound and style all his own. One of his major influences was his good friend, Mr. John Lee Hooker.

I met Albert. He is such as gentleman. He’s one of the nicest persons. And to me, I like his style so much. He did something that nobody but Albert Collins and that style was so unique, so touching. He was just a big hunk of soul that had so much into that.  He didn’t sound like nobody but Albert Collins and he was really, really good.  You hear his guitar, it will really pick you up.  You’ve got to listen, you can’t turn your head on it.  - John Lee Hooker
