Under the Hood: James Brown on His Legendary Work Ethic

Born on this day back in 1933, James Brown earned a bunch of titles during his career.  He was ‘The Godfather of Soul’ and ‘The King of Funk’ because of his contributions to those two musical genres.  He was also called ‘The Hardest Working Man in Show Business’ for his high-octane live performance and non-stop touring schedule.  I once asked James Brown about his legendary work ethic:

“When we were kids, we didn’t want welfare. It was a disgrace. People now, they debate with their kids.  There’s nothing to debate with me and Ma.  My mom said, this is what it is, you don’t do it, that’s it.  We separate right now.  There’s no debate.  But we need all that we can get right now.” – James Brown
