Under the Hood: Gregg Allman on How He and Duane Got Turned On to the Blues
The young Allman brothers were 10 and 11 years old when the family moved to Florida in 1957. How did that move introduce the Allman Brothers to the blues? Gregg Allman tells the story.
“I didn’t learn how to play music until the family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. And to make a long story short, this guy turned me on to rhythm and blues. And like he took me to Paradise Inn, which was an old nightclub down over across the tracks. I mean, I saw some people that just, I mean, whoa. Then I went back and got my brother and brought him and he went whoa. So my brother picked up a guitar and passed me up like I was standing still.” – Gregg Allman
