Under the Hood: Elvin Bishop on Hound Dog Taylor

Hound Dog Taylor was the first artist to record on Chicago’s Alligator Records label. His raw, slash-and-burn style of slide guitar is full of energy, chaos, and just plain fun. With his band, the Houserockers, Hound Dog Taylor inspired awe among Chicago’s demanding blues fans. Blues guitar master Elvin Bishop spent some time with Hound Dog Taylor.

That was really a cool thing just to see how it’s done. We played in really really low down bucket of blood places. And Hound Dog had these long legs and his knees were way up past his lap, and his pant legs went way up past his socks. And he would be patting that foot and just sweating and just had that place just rocking from side to side. – Elvin Bishop
