Under the Hood: Bob Weir on Jimi Hendrix’s Stage Movements

The Jimi Hendrix Experience put on legendary live concerts.  Jimi – of course – got famous for playing the guitar an different positions and sometimes even burning it.  Jimi’s friend, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, says Jimi’s on-stage movements served another purpose as well.

On stage as amply been shown on film he moved really fluidly with the music. He had a real tight trio and they’d been playing together for a bit and I think he used body language a lot to signal where he was going.  I don’t think he was doing that consciously, I think he was just moving with the music but his band, the guys were watching him. And so they were able to anticipate where he was going musically by watching his body. – Bob Weir
