Under the Hood: Al Kooper on Bob Dylan

Al Kooper has worked with just about everybody. He formed Blood, Sweat and Tears, he discovered Lynyrd Skynyrd, and he has produced artists as diverse as B.B. King and the Tubes. The French horn on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”? Al Kooper once again. Al Kooper was also playing keyboards with Bob Dylan during one of Dylan’s many musical transformations. I recently caught up with Al Kooper and asked him for his take on Bob Dylan.

Oh I think he changed millions of ways. I think that’s one of the things that was interesting about him. He didn’t just stay the same. You didn’t know what every album was gonna be like. You couldn’t count on him on every album to do what he did on the album before it. I think that was probably one of the most interesting things about him. - Al Kooper
