THIS WEEKEND: Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials
Hour 1: Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials
Get some modern yet very old school Chicago Blues this week, complete with some smoking slide guitar. The release is called THE BIG SOUND OF LIL ED AND THE BLUES IMPERIALS. Lil’ Ed joins Elwood to spin the disc, and talk about sharp dressing, what makes the best slide, and the fine points of barbecue. Also to be played: Lil’ Ed’s influences J. B. Hutto and Hound Dog Taylor. And some other Littles, just for grins: Walter, Milton, and Charlie (of the Nightcats). Elwood closes things out with brand new music from Thornetta Davis, queen of the Detroit Blues.
Hour 2: Pokey LaFarge
Pokey LaFarge is a great new talent headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a roots player with a twist, presenting his own original acoustic music, influenced by the blues, pop, country, and jazz music of the early Twentieth Century. SOMETHING IN THE WATER is his latest CD. It will be played, along with some of Pokey’s heroes: Big Bill Broonzy and Tampa Red. Plus, some other St. Louis luminaries: Chuck Berry, Donny Hathaway, and T. Bone Burnett.
