THIS WEEKEND: Fantastic Negrito

Hour 1: Fantastic Negrito

Fresh on the heels of his Grammy win (Best Contemporary Blues Album), Elwood welcomes Oakland, California treasure Fantastic Negrito.  Plus some other East Bay legends, including Tower of Power, Rafael Saddiq, and Sly and the Family Stone.  The award-winning album is called THE LAST DAYS OF OAKLAND.  It will be played, along with some trad blues from Leadbelly and Robert Johnson.  Plus, an exclusive in-studio performance from Mr. NEgrito, and brand new music, to wrap things up, from the great Elvin Bishop.

Hour 2: Blues Reinventions with C.C. Rider

C.C. Rider invites you to ponder some reinventions–folks who put a new spin on old tunes–Keb Mo, Bonnie Raitt, Guy Davis, Rory Block, Pokey LaFarge, Rhiannon Giddens, the Carolina Chocolate Drops. And, lest we forget, some of the originals who made the reinventing possible: Mississippi Fred McDowell, Blind WIlie McTell, Skip James, and Gus Cannon’s Jug Stompers.
