Hour 1: Bob Dylan 75th Birthday
Bob Dylan turns 75 on May 24, 2016. Elwood celebrates the legendary shape shifter with other people “doing Dylan,” like Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter and Raphael Saddiq. Then you will hear “Dylan doing Dylan,” and finally “Dylan doing other people’s music” including Johnny Cash, and his take on the classic blues, “Rollin’ and Tumblin.’” The show will be closed with new R&B from soul diva Tasha Taylor.
Hour 2: Pokey LaFarge
Pokey LaFarge is a great new talent headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a roots player with a twist, presenting his own original acoustic music, influenced by the blues, pop, country, and jazz music of the early Twentieth Century. SOMETHING IN THE WATER is his latest CD. It will be played, along with some of Pokey’s heroes: Big Bill Broonzy and Tampa Red. Plus, some other St. Louis luminaries: Chuck Berry, Donny Hathaway, and T. Bone Burnett.
