This Weekend: 2016 Blues Music Awards Preview
Hour 1: BMAs
Thursday, May 5th, marks the live presentation of this year’s Blues Music Awards, an epic gathering of trophy giving and music playing that goes well into the night. If you cannot be there, Elwood will certainly give you a taste, beginning with some of last year’s winners, Elvin Bishop and Bobby Rush, and moving straight into this year’s nominees, James Harman, the Cedric Burnside Project, acoustic warrior Doug MacLeod, soul singer Wee Willie Walker, Shemekia Copeland, the Cash Box King, piano man Anthony Geraci, and Sugaray Rayford. Closing things out, new music from harmonica whiz Sugar Blue.
Hour 2: JW-Jones
The very suave Canadian bluesman JW Jones joins Elwood to expose his latest, BELMONT BOULEVARD, recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with the legendary producer Tom Hambridge. Also: some major influences on Jones, including BB King and Jimmie Vaughan. And a quick overview of some other Hambridge productions, including James Cotton, Buddy Guy, and Joe Louis Walker.
