Music Writer Joel Selvin rides in the BluesMobile with Elwood

Rock music critic, Joel Selvin, joins Elwood to talk about his book, HERE COMES THE NIGHT, the story of Bert Berns, a hidden force behind Atlantic Records in its heyday.   Songwriter, producer, A&R man, he wrote “Here Comes the Night,” a hit for both Van Morrison, and Lulu, with guitar solos by Jimmy Page (who Berns brought in to play).  He pushed Solomon Burke, Ray Charles, the Isley Brothers, Erma Franklin (he wrote “Piece of My Heart.”), and more.   That tale is told, plus more Atlantic soul from Aretha Franklin, Ruth Brown, Ben E King, and The Blues Brothers!  A button is put on the show with Saun & Starr, the back up singers for Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings.  Out on their own. You will not remain seated for their number.

AIR DATES: July 18-19, 2015
