CDHS Jazz Band Partners with The 24th Street Wailers to Support Hospital and Stirling Theatre

For Immediate Release, March 19, 2014

CAMPBELLFORD, ON – The award winning Campbellford District High School (CDHS) Jazz Band is partnering with one of Canada’s hottest blues bands for a fundraising concert in support of the Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) and the Stirling Festival Theatre. For the event, planned for Saturday, May 10th, the CDHS Jazz Band will take to the Festival Theatre stage with The 24th Street Wailers, a Toronto based band that has quickly earned a reputation as one of the best blues bands in North America. Proceeds from the show will be split equally between the CMH Foundation and Stirling Festival Theatre.

CDHS has been recognized as having some of Canada’s finest student jazz groups that has won almost every award around, including 20 national gold awards. Graduates of the CDHS Music Program can be found in Toronto jazz clubs, the Canadian Opera Company, and at North American post-secondary institutions including McGill University, Humber College, MIT, and the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.

Formed over five years ago, The 24th Street Wailers, that includes CDHS Graduate Mike Archer, have quickly made a name for themselves in the Canadian music scene and beyond. The Wailers have played in some 35 major cities in Canada. The band’s played major U.S. tours, and in 2014 is set to perform in 11 different states, from Michigan to Texas. Past tour highlights have included an opening spot for legendary blues pioneer Jimmie Vaughan, and show-stopping performances on prestigious festival stages (at the Vancouver Island Music Festival where they broke the record for CD sales two years in a row).
When describing The 24th Street Wailers, Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd), Host of the House of Blues Radio Hour, said their music “is just great, gritty, fun, live stuff!” A terrific compliment from a blues legend.

CDHS Music Teacher Dave Noble says “the students are thrilled to be playing with The 24th Street Wailers and supporting the hospital and Festival Theatre in the process”. Noble adds “it will also be great to welcome back Mike Archer to the area and congratulate him on the success of The Wailers.”

Previous CDHS Jazz Band fundraising concerts have raised over $15,000 for the hospital and seen the band perform with Jeff Healey, the Downchild Blues Band, Hilario Duran, and Denny Christianson.

Tickets for the CDHS Jazz Band/24th Street Wailers concert are just $20 for adults or $15 for Students. They are available from the Stirling Festival Theatre Box Office or on-line at stirlingfestivaltheatre.com.
